Ever since I was young, I loved to design and build things. It was only natural that I entered into the architecture program at Kent State University. I loved it and I hated it. I loved that I was actually learning how to take my ideas and develop them into something great and amazing, but I hated that my creativity had to be suppressed to fit the thoughts and ideals of my professors.
Well, I left architecture and followed the path of most of the architecture drop outs, into the school of business. This was not the place for me. Business is place where creativity stops and HR policies begin. Yuck! Well, 9 years later I found myself sitting in a cubicle. My creativity was forced into hiding until my two 10 minute breaks and my 45 minute lunch. It was time for me to make a change, so I went back to my roots.
I had been dreaming of designing and making furniture ever since I left architecture, but I just didn't have the means to begin. Finally, with my workshop staffed with the major tools I needed to begin and a ton of support from my wife, I was able to get started. My first piece was a bit scary. Not only was this table for my wife, who is my biggest critic, but I was terrified of failing.
With some patience and some dedication I did it, but in the mean time I fell in love with creating something out of such a natural material-wood. I find that wood is like no other substance. Nothing else in the world is as versatile and yet gorgeous at the same time. With so many different patterns of grain and figuring on top of glorious colors, wood has always intrigued me. I hope my love for this material shows in every piece I make.
Please enjoy my work, and stop back often for updates. When you feel it is time for you to have a Clark McGill original, please contact me so we can get started.
Thank you, and take care,
Clark
